1. PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates YashoBhoomi Convention Centre
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first phase of the International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) apartly named ‘YashoBhoomi’, in Dwarka and also the extension of Delhi Airport Metro Express line from Dwarka sector 21 to a new metro station at Dwarka sector on September 17.
The launch of YashoBhoomi at Dwarka could Bloster PM Modi’s ambition to have a world-class infrastructure for hosting meetings, conferences, and exhibits in the nation.
The YashoBhoomi Centre is Built upon an area of more than 1.8 lakh square meters while having a total project area of over 8.9 lakh square meters.
The Magnificient project was developed at a cost of about Rs.5400 crore and boasts to have an impressive Convention Centre, Multiple exhibition halls, and other facilities. The exhibition Hall of ‘YahoBhoomi’ is one of the biggest in the entire world. These Display halls, which cover a total area of 1.07 lakh square meters, will be used to host trade shows, business events, and exhibitions.
2. 29th World Ozone Day
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), celebrated the 29th World Ozone Day on 16th September each year to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol, an International environmental treaty for phasing out of production and consumption of Ozone Depleting Substances that came into force on this day in 1987.
World Ozone Day is celebrated every year to spread awareness among the people about the Depletion of the Ozone layer and measures to be taken to preserve it.
The Theme for World Ozone Day 2023 is “Montreal Protocol: Fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change”.
3. ICG Samudra Prahari on overseas deployment to ASEAN countries
The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICG) Samudra Prahari, a specialized pollution control vessel, is currently on an overseas deployment to ASEAN countries from 11 Sep to 14 Oct 2023. This deployment is a part of India’s ASEAN Initiatives for Marine Pollution Response, showcasing the pollution Response capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and its commitment to addressing marine pollution issues and enhancing capacity in the region.
The Ship is equipped with a chetak Helicopter in pollution Response Configuration, enhancing its capabilities in the area. The Initiative was announced by Defence Minister Ranjith Singh during the ASEAN Defence Minister Meeting plus in Cambodia in 2022.
As a Part of an Overseas exchange program, the ship has embarked 13 NCC cadets to participate in “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan”, an International outreach program focused on beach clean-ups and similar activities in coordination with partner nations. This ship is also scheduled to make port-in calls in Bangkok and Jakarta.
4. Vivek Bhasin takes charge as New Director of BARC
Senior Nuclear Scientist Vivek Bhasin assumed charge as the Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). He was the director of the Nuclear Fuels Group of the BARC.
Bhasin played a key role in setting up facilities for the fabrication of fuel for the Apsara-U reactor. He received the Indian Nuclear Society Medal, the DAE Science and Technology Award, and the Homi Bhabha Science and Technology Award.
BARC is engaged in research with the objective of generating knowledge and techniques for nuclear power production.
5. International Coastal CleanUp Day
The Indian Coast Guard conducted International Coastal CleanUp Day 2023 across all the coastal states and Union Territories. It is held worldwide on the third Saturday of September every year under the aegis of UNEP and SAEP in the South Asian region. The campaign was dedicated to the ongoing efforts of the government for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Maharastra witnessed the highest participation of 11000 volunteers followed by Tamilnadu.
6. RML Hospital Inaugurates India’s First OPD for Transgenders
RML Hospital inaugurated India’s first dedicated OPD for Transgenders. The inaugural ceremony was led by Dr. (Prof.) Ajay Shukla, Director, RML Hospital.
The Initiative is started with an understanding of the difficulties encountered by the transgender community to access healthcare services, largely due to discomfort and fear of discrimination and social apathy. This aims to provide better access to Healthcare services for Transgender Individuals.
The OPD will provide Services such as Endocrinology, Plastic surgery, Dermatology, pediatrics, Urology, and other Blood-related Investigations.
7. Centre Launched 3 initiatives on Agri Credit and Crop Insurance
The Indian Government Launched three initiatives aimed at improving financial inclusion and livelihoods in the agricultural community. The initiatives are the Kisan Rin Portal for credit delivery, the Ghar Ghar KCC Abhiyan for short-term Agriculture credit, and the WINDS manual for weather data collection.
The Primary goal of Ghar Ghar KCC Abhiyan is to ensure that every farmer in India has access to the benefits of the Kisan credit card scheme, promoting universal financial inclusion.
Weather information Network Data Systems(WINDS) will help agriculture by establishing a network of weather stations and rain gauges, providing hyper-local weather data to aid in Crop management.
8. Indian Navy to conduct Joint Exercise with Sri Lankan Navy
The Indian Navy’s diving support vessel INS Nireekshak made an official visit to the port of Trincomalee. The ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy according to Navel customs. Diving teams from both navies will engage in exercises aimed at enhancing interoperability of best practices.
On arrival, the ship was welcomed by officials from HCL, Colombo. INS Nireekshak is a diving support vessel of the Indian Navy. It can also function as an interim submarine rescue vessel.
9. Northeast’s Mithun Gets ‘Food Animal’ Tag
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has recently recognized the Mithun as a ‘Food Animal’ opening doors for its commercial use. Mithun is a captivating and culturally significant bovine species found in Northeast India.
The Mithun is considered a descendant of the Indian Gaur or Bison. It is known as the Cattle of the Mountain. ICAR-NRC on Mithun proposes to establish “Mithun DAY” on September 1 every year and Mithun meat is named ‘Weeshi’.Mithun is the state animal of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
10. Antim Panghal win Wrestling Worlds Bronze
Antim Panghal, a promising wrestler, achieved a historic milestone by clinching the bronze medal at the 2023 World Championship in the 53kg category. This victory secured an Olympic quota for India in the same weight category for the 2024 Paris Games. Antim Panghal won the bronze medal by beating double European champion Jonna Malmgren of Sweden. She is a two-time U20 World Champion.
11. Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar
The Government of India has come out with a new set of National Awards in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation known as “Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar”. The objective of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP) is to recognize the notable and inspiring contributions made by scientists, Technologists, and Innovators individually or in teams in various fields of science, Technology, and Innovation.
Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is given in 13 Domains. These Awards are announced on 11th May (National Technology Day) every year.
12. Agumbe Forest loses Rainfall Crown
Karnataka’s Agumbe Rainforest Complex (ARC) is known for its phenomenal rainfall and was often referred to as the ‘Cherrapunji’ of the south. It gained recognition for receiving over 8,000 mm of rainfall during the monsoon.
While ARC received its peak rainfall of around 6,000 mm during the monsoon months of June and August in the past, recent years have seen this peak rainfall drop to a range of 5,250 mm to 5,500 mm. Nadpal and Mudradi have recorded more rainfall than Agumbe this monsoon.
Agumbe’s rainfall is vital for sustaining water bodies and rivers originating in the Western Ghats. It is a Biodiversity Hotspot located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka.
13. India’s First Lighthouse Festival
The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, which overseas lighthouses across the nation, has unveiled a grand plan to transform 75 lighthouses into Tourist destinations.
This visionary initiative is part of the Lighthouse Heritage Tourism plan and marks the inaugural Lighthouse Festival of India, scheduled to take place in Goa from September 23 to 25.
This festival is described as a roadshow aimed at drawing investors to develop these Lighthouses and attracting tourists to these unique hubs.
14. New Marine Tardigrade Species in Indian Waters
Researchers at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) have unveiled an existing discovery of a new species of marine tardigrade, named Batillipes Kalami, this minuscule creature was found on the southeast coast of Tamil Nadu, India, and has been christened in honor of the late former Indian President and renowned scientist, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
15. TB Mukt Express
Union Minister Jitendra Singh flagged off the “TB Mukt Express”, a mobile medical van under the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Healthcare Initiative. This van will travel to various villages in his parliamentary constituency of Udhampur, promoting the slogan “Chalo Chale TB Ko Harane”
The main objective of the “TB Mukt Express” is to provide Medical services and raise awareness about Tuberculosis in different villages, primarily in the Udhampur constituency, with the goal of defeating TB.
